Dr. Thomas Okamoto discusses psychiatric medications at the Enlighten Mental Health Speaker Series

Enlighten Mental Health hosted the Speaker Series on Monday, November 15, 2021. Dr. Thomas Okamoto’s topic was on psychiatric medications.

He talked about

Dr. Okamoto is a psychiatry specialist in Santa Ana, CA and has over 40 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from University of California School of Medicine – Los Angeles medical school in 1981. He did his residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. His specialties include: Mood Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depressive Disorder, Insomnia, and Sleep Disorders. Did clinical trials on mood disorders and treatment programs.

He worked with Dr. John Townsend and Dr. Henry Cloud for a few years. He has worked with churches and Christian congregations over a number of decades.

He has written portions of two books:
1. Counseling and Mental Health in the Church: The Role of Pastors and the Ministry by Kevin Van Lant, Ph.D. and Robyn Bettenhausen Geis, Psy.D.
2. Christianity and Psychiatry, editors John R. Peteet, H. Steven Moffic, Ahmed Hankir, Harold G. Koenig. 2021.
